Folio Grid
Methodology

The diligence layer, documented.

Folio Grid is a technical-engineering practice. This page describes how we move from a project datapack to an IC-grade memo, what we commit to, and what our methodology will not do.

Pipeline

From datapack to memo, in six stages.

The pipeline is linear by design, every stage produces a traceable artefact that feeds the next. No stage is autonomous. Every intermediate output is reviewable by the client engineer on the other side.

  1. Data ingestion

Project datapack (site, POC, MW/MWh, offtake or tolling, OEM, target COD) lodged alongside the current AEMO Generator Information register, NER S5.2.4/5.2.5 compliance context, and historical dispatch / FCAS time-series.

  2. Static grid screen

SCR at POC, system-strength shortfall against the SSIAG methodology, MLF trajectory per AEMO's published calculation, DMAT Table 22 mandatory-subset exposure, and constraint-equation mapping across the current ISP topology.

  3. Dynamic grid screen

Load-flow, short-circuit and R2 model-validation overlays on representative NEM topologies (AusNet, ElectraNet, TransGrid, Powerlink) parameterised from published generator-scaling data and stress-tested under adverse system conditions.

  4. Revenue modelling

Dispatch optimisation against 30-minute price curves with SOC, SOH and round-trip efficiency constraints. FCAS contingency, regulation, and the emerging inertia-equivalent stack modelled explicitly. Monte-Carlo across curve scenarios for banker-standard P10 / P50 / P90 distributions.

  5. Counterparty and contract review

Offtaker, OEM, EPC and tolling counterparty read-across. Capacity Investment Scheme contract terms integrated where applicable. Common-equity and platform-risk checks against published corporate filings.

  6. Memo synthesis and senior sign-off

Structured findings written into the IC memo template, with verified reasoning traces per section. A senior power-systems or markets analyst reviews and signs off every deliverable before release, aligned with the principles in DNV-RP-0671.

Commitments

Four commitments we make to every deliverable.

Open-source core, proprietary screens

The numerical backbone (pandapower, PyPSA) is open-source and auditable. The screens layered on top are ours, documented to methodology-note level.

Public-data calibration

Every NEM model is calibrated against AEMO and AEMC public datasets and the current ISP. Where licensed data sharpens the output (Cornwall Insight AU, Aurora ERCOT curves), we license it cleanly.

Defensible outputs, not black-box numbers

Every red flag and every revenue number links to a methodology note. If a client engineer disagrees, they can push back on the working, that is the test.

No vendor dependency

Our technical layer does not wrap Gridmo or any other third-party SaaS. The engineering is ours; the accountability is ours.

Data sources

What we read, and how we reconcile it.

Every input into the methodology is public, licensed or client-provided. No data sources are proprietary to Folio Grid; our edge is in the calibration and the reconciliation, not in privileged access.

AI-assisted diligence

Modern tooling, institutional accountability.

Certain stages of the pipeline use AI-assisted inference to compress data-gathering and summarisation time. That tooling never runs unattended. Every finding produced with AI assistance is reviewed by a senior analyst before it enters a deliverable, and our methodology aligns with the principles in DNV-RP-0671 on AI-enabled systems assurance. We do not ship black-box outputs, every line of every memo links to a methodology note that names its sources, assumptions and uncertainties.

Scope

What the methodology is, and what it is not.

What it is
  • Investor-grade screening and full IC memo deliverables
  • Calibrated technical and revenue models for the NEM
  • Senior-reviewed, documented, and defensible under IC scrutiny
What it is not
  • A replacement for a bankable IE report at financial close
  • A wrapper on a third-party engineering SaaS
  • An autonomous agent output, every memo is senior-reviewed
